Here we go again...

So...I'm back in New York! The summer flew by at an absolutely ridculous speed and it was wonderful in every way. I know, I know, I wondered how I could ever tolerate being in Minneapolis for THREE WHOLE MONTHS, but I did, and I miss it now (figures) and it's going to take awhile to adjust to New York again. I guess my life is filled with culture shock, no matter where I am.
After a horrendous car ride with Dad (he was so great and put up with a depressed and exhausted Emily plus four hour traffic jams and dead truck batteries, then drove all through the night...someone has the best dad...that someone is me), we finally made it to Manhattan and more specifically, my new dorm right on Union Square. I was skeptical about the dorm because I had never visited it and had also heard negative feedback. I assumed it would somewhat resemble a jail cell. Well, I was wrong! It's pretty adorable, actually. It's smaller than last year, but it's sort of cute and I still have room for all of my stuff. I'm rooming with my two roommates from last year (Mallory and Alinane), plus my fellow female Dangerbox-er, Anna. The setup is sort of confusing...Anna and I sleep in the actual bedroom while Mallory and Alinane share the common room as a bedroom. This isn't terrible, except for the fact that Mallory and Alinane don't have a bedroom door and they are sort of exposed to both the front door and the kitchen. I'm sure we'll eventually remedy this with a room divider or curtain or something. There is a lot of natural light, and the view is great. My dorm is actually three towers connected on the bottom floor with a courtyard in the middle. We live on the top floor (12), and it's sort of awkward that we directly face the other tower and therefore can see very clearly into EVERYONE'S rooms. This means they can also see into our room. This has already posed a problem a couple of times. Alinane put on some Beyonce earlier today and we started dancing obnoxiously, only to look up to see the guy in the room across from us waving to us. Awkward. I'm sure I will have many more of these special moments.

I haven't gone out much even though the weather has been great. So far...I don't have any textbooks to buy (I don't think I go to a real school). I walked down to the bookstore to make sure, and on the way, enjoyed some Tasti-d-Lite and a bagel from Bagel Bob's. Yummm. There was a crazy man in Tasti-d-Lite, so I feel like I got my full New York experience. Alinane, Anna and I planned on going to see Superbad tonight, but of course once we got to the theater, we discovered it was sold out. Even though it's playing on 2 screens. And there are 10,000 movie theaters in a mile radius. And it's a Wednesday night. Stupid New York. Instead, we rented some Sex and the City (because it's exactly how our lives are, duh) and ordered Chinese. Yeah, yeah, even though I have a kitchen this year, I still needed some sodium goodness. Tomorrow, I have Tisch orientation for 5 hours and I'll have to fight for a spot in the Screenwriting class. Boo! I need to make that work out somehow...

Sometimes it's just nice to stay in, and that's okay, even when you're in Manhattan.

Here are the much-anticipated pictures of my dorm. Enjoy!
