Mostly about food

When will it stop raining? We don't know. All I know is that I have yet to see the sun in New York. And that can be sort of depressing. It's another hazy, cold and wet day, but I did get a lot done.
This morning, I decided to finally check out the dining hall situation, since I have my 14 meals this week that I should spend. I met my Facebook Friend, Nicole, at Weinstein, which also happens to be her dorm. I am throughly pleased with the eating situation. Weinstein has like a Quiznos and coffee place, but then downstairs, there's an all-you-can-eat buffet hall for every meal. So, for breakfast, there was about every breakfast food imaginable. I decided to make my own Belgian waffle with strawberries and a muffin. The dining hall is such a sociable, fun place. I met quite a few people while eating, which I haven't really done much of before today. Some people I wish I didn't meet...okay. After breakfast, I had a 10:30 academic advisement orientation thing...I still don't really know what that was all about. Haha. They basically just crowded us all in the Cantor Film Center and told us that if we get overwhelmed, we need to go to the office, and that we needed to work hard? I don't even know. Unfortunately, when I got out of that, it was actually POURING, and because I'm smart enough to get into NYU, I left my umbrella in my room. Maybe that's why I'm in the General Studies Program? Anyway, I eyed a Starbucks across the street and down a little bit, sort of like a beacon of heavenly light in a stormy and cold world. Sort of. I made a run for it, sort of fell a little bit (damn flip flops), which was fun for everyone to see, I think. I finally made it to the Starbucks, and it felt so good to just sit and chill with my triple grande nonfat almond latte. Yummmmmm.
I really like my roommates/suitemates. I've had individual chats with all of them, and they are all just kind and courteous and interesting people. Mallory and I spent the afternoon together. We went to Kmart to find me a messenger bag and a whiteboard for the outside of our door. THAT is exciting. I also helped her assemble a TV shelf thing, so now our room looks even more homey and comfortable with all the things we keep adding. The two of us went back to Weinstein for lunch...it's really extensive and fancy! We had a ton of different entree choices, and I went with the sauteed vegetables and pasta. Basically, we went through a line and put together all the vegetables that we wanted, and then a chef sauteed it with spices and sauces and pasta. It was pretty good, and it felt reasonably healthy...they also have like 12 gallons of different ice cream in a freezer with cones and sundae toppings...I'm going to try to stay away from that. Instead, I had some low-fat frozen yogurt from a little soft-serve machine. There was also fresh fruit of all kinds...I wanted to put a peach in my purse, but that's sort of ghetto. Haha. I met some more people, and Mallory and I just had a really good time.
I love my room. It's so nice to just sit up here in sweats and mess around on my laptop, with suitemates coming and going. It's really comfortable. And, while the rain is frustrating, it's not hot. Lack of air conditioning is the only downfall of the dorm.
Mallory was at her Tisch orientation yesterday, and she realized she was standing next to Haley Joel Osment. That made me laugh a little bit. I guess he's a freshman here, too. Mallory said he looked scruffy and sad. I head he's living in the dorms, too. That's weird. I have yet to see any famous people...I'm sure I will, though.
Tonight, one of the Welcome Week activities is going to see NYU's sketch comedy group, Hammerkatz, so our floor is having dinner together at Weinstein (I may not go...I'm still pretty full) and then going to that. I hope it's good. And I hope I can find a way to get involved.
Rain rain rain is depressing. And it makes me feel lazy. I think I'm going to watch some of my Golden Girls dvds on my macbook. That will make me happy. :)
